Danish hearing aid maker Widex and German rival Sivantos have reopened an application seeking European Commission approval for their merger. A  spokesman for Widex says that it expect the merger to be approved in the first quarter of 2019.

In October 2018 the companies withdrew their previously announced US$8bn merger. Sivantos owner EQT said at the time that it remained committed to the deal.

The merger would create the sector’s third largest player after market leaders Sonova and William Demant.
