Linde and Praxair are in advanced talks to sell assets to a consortium of German gases firm Messer Group and CVC Capital Partners to gain regulatory approval for their planned US$83bn merger.

The talks are over the majority of Linde’s gases business in North America and some Linde and Praxair assets in South America, Germany’s Linde said.

It has been earlier reported that Messer Group is the preferred bidder for Linde’s North American business, which it must sell to complete its US$83bn merger with Praxair of the US.
